Vegetative characteristics

The willow leaf sun rose is an annual herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 5 to 30 centimeters. The bristly hairy stems hardly lignify.

The constantly against the bottom and alternate arranged in the upper area of the stem leaves are stalked short. The green leaf blade is eilanzettlich to ob-eilanzettlich and softly haired ( trichomes ). There are two stipules on each leaf .

Generative characteristics

The flowering period extends from March to June. The thin flower stalks are horizontally protruding and erect at the top. The flowers are single.

The hermaphrodite and stalked flowers are radial symmetry and five-fold with a double flower envelope . The flower stalks are hairy. The sepals , in two very unequal circles, are hairy and the inner, larger, keeled, are about the same length as the petals (in other species they are significantly shorter than this). The yellow petals are 5 to 12 millimeters long or absent. The stylus is straight.

Egg-shaped to spherical, small and glabrous, three-lobed, multi-seeded capsule fruits with a constant, sweeping calyx are formed. The small seeds are up to 1 millimeter in size and ovoid.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 20.

Occurrence

The willow leaf sun rose is a Mediterranean floral element . It occurs in North Africa , on the Canary Islands , in South to Central Europe , in Southeast Europe and in the Middle East . The willow-leaf sun rose thrives in grasslands, in the garigue to semi-desert . In Central Europe, the willow leaf sun rose is found in the Swiss canton of Valais . In Valais, according to Infoflora , it thrives in dry grassland and rock steppes, especially in the heat- loving silicate rock pioneer corridor (Sedo-Veronicion).

Taxonomy

The first publication took place in 1753 under the name ( Basionym ) Cistus salicifolius by Carl von Linné in Species Plantarum , 1, page 527. The new combination to Helianthemum salicifolium (L.) Mill. Was 1768 by Philip Miller in The Gardeners Dictionary , 8th edition, Volume 2: Helianthemum No. 21 published. Synonyms for Helianthemum salicifolium (L.) Mill. Are: Helianthemum intermedium Pers. , Helianthemum salicifolium subsp. intermedium (Pers.) Maire Aphananthemum salicifolium (L.) Fourr.
