course

The Weidtobelbach rises on the southeast slope of the Gubrist at 494  m above sea level. M. in the hallway in the rear reed west of Rütihof in the Höngg district . From here it flows in a south-westerly direction and reaches the Lochholz forest area early on , in which it has formed a narrow ravine. After about 100 meters of the stream it forms the municipal boundary between Zurich and Oberengstringen up to its mouth. Before its mouth, a small part of its water is diverted in the hole to feed a small artificial pond. Shortly afterwards the stream flows out at 453  m above sea level. M. from the right into the Fürtlibach. It is very likely that the stream flowed further south in the past and flowed through a ravine, which today is traversed by a swampy trickle, which is possibly fed by the Weidtobelbach.

geology

The creek has in quaternary Würm - moraine sediment consisting of clay, silt and sand eaten. At the mouth you can find gravel from the early worm period that was driven over by the glacial period .

Flora Fauna

In his Bachtobel you will mostly find typical lungwort - beech forest , on the upper reaches also woodruff beech forest with lungwort. At the mouth there is again a maple - ash forest with ringelwort . However, due to the steep slope, the forest is of little economic importance. However, it protects against landslides and thus also serves as flood protection.

The smallest of the three ponds in the hole , which is not accessible via paths, offers habitat for the rare common midwife toad . The nature and bird protection association Höngg has been committed to their continued existence for years and supports a species promotion project.
