Village church

The most important attraction of the place is the nameless village church . The little church is very old. Documents mentioning the church state that it existed as early as the 13th century. It is believed that this is the oldest village church in Thuringia. Presumably it was built during the travels of Boniface from Ohrdruf in the 8th century. Under certain conditions, the rays of the sun meet in a square recess in the cube-shaped, stone altar, a fact that points to a pagan place of worship that was perhaps converted into a Christian church by the locals during the missionary work of Boniface. The church has two galleries and around 120 seats, a space that corresponds to attending church services in earlier times. The parish belongs to the parish of Metebach, to which the parishes of Neufrankenroda, Asbach and Ebenheim still belong.
