Welcherod is a district of the municipality of Frielendorf in the Schwalm-Eder district in Hesse ( Germany ).

The village is located northwest of the main town in the Frielendorfer Hügelland (natural area 343.12) on the northwestern edge of the Knüllgebirge in northern Hesse . South of the village is the Sendberg , which was the seat of the court on the Sendberg in the Middle Ages . The state road 3152 leads through the village.

history

The first written mention of the place can be found in 1196 in a directory of the Cappel monastery under Belferoth . Until 1460 the place is still listed in records. Then the place fell desolate .

Until 1921 the place with the support of established 1920 Treuhandstelle for Bergmannswohnstätten as workers' settlement for miners of brown coal - mining recreated in Frielendorf. For this purpose, part of the Vernaer prospect forest "Das Welcheroth" was expropriated on the basis of the Miners' Settlement Act, in order to create the settlement there by the housing association "Siedlung im Hessenland, Frielendorf" formed for this purpose. In 1931 there were 76 families with 276 people in 32 houses.

Welcherod belonged to the municipality of Verna , which was incorporated into Frielendorf on January 1, 1974.
