Reviews
After the release - with mixed reviews ranging from high praise to complete disgust - Strauss-Kahn said that he would sue for defamation. His lawyer also complained that the film portrayed his then-wife Anne Sinclair as anti-Semitic.
Ferrara alleged in a series of interviews with Indiewire, The Hollywood Reporter and other newspapers between September 2014 and March 2015 that its distributor Vincent Maraval of Wild Bunch sent an unauthorized R-rated version of the film to IFC Films for distribution in the United States have sold; the R-Rating cut has already been published on Blu-ray and VOD in various European countries. Maraval replied that Ferrara had agreed to cut the R-rated version in order to raise more funding for the film, and also contractually agreed to lose the final cut of the R-rated version if he did not do so delivered at a certain point in time. Ferrara then set out its intent in a cease and desist letter to Maraval and the IFC, which issued their own statement, in which they also claimed that they had given Ferrara the opportunity to provide its own R-grade editing for theatrical productions in the US, what he refused. As of March 27, the R-rated cut was only shown in one American theater - the Roxie in San Francisco - although it was available on VOD in the US. The IFC intended to show the film in other cinemas.
