Wendy Kay Wagner (born October 31, 1973 in Salt Lake City ) is a former American cross-country skier .

Career

Wagner ran her first race in the Continental Cup in Sun Valley in March 1996 , which she finished classically in sixth place over 5 km. She completed her first of a total of 39 individual World Cup races at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Ramsau am Dachstein in 1999 . There she finished 69th place over 5 km classic, 56th place in the pursuit and 46th place over 30 km classic. With the relay she achieved 14th place there. In December 1999 in Canmore and in February 2001 in Marquette , she won her first classic wins in the Continental Cup each over 5 km. Her best placements at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2001 in Lahti were 26th place over 10 km classic and 12th place with the relay. In March 2001 she got her first world cup points in Oslo with the 23rd place over 30 km classic. In the following year she achieved her best individual placement in the World Cup with 17th place in the sprint and her best overall result at the end of the season with 75th place in the overall World Cup. Her best results at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City were 23rd place over 30 km classic and 13th place with the relay.

In the 2002/03 season, Wagner won the Continental Cup six times and also took second and third place each time. Her best result at the highlight of the season, the Nordic World Ski Championships 2003 in Val di Fiemme, was 32nd place in the 15 km mass start race. In the following season she won the Continental Cup in West Yellowstone over 10 km classic and in Soldier Hollow over 5 km classic and also took second place three times. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf in 2005 , she ran to 50th place in the skiathlon , 47th place in the 30 km mass start race and 23rd place in the sprint. At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin , she came in 50th place over 10 km classic, 35th place in the sprint, 14th place with the relay and tenth place together with Kikkan Randall in the team sprint. She completed her last international race in March 2006 at the Nor-Am Cup in Presque Isle . She won her 13th Continental Cup victory in the 30 km mass start race.
