If every day were a Sunday is a German comedy of confusion by Harald Vock from 1973 .

action

Dr. Karl Maria Wegner, head of the Wegner travel agency, is a workaholic , which is why he and his family - wife Mathilde and children Erich and Gaby - have never been on vacation. When Mathilde plans to go to Spain with the children , Karl has other plans. He goes with the family to one of his hotels in Carinthia , where he tries to check the quality under a false name. The hotel manager is informed of the planned arrival of his boss, but he thinks Bubi Berger is Wegner. He is on vacation with his crime-mad mother and is very surprised to get the best suite and a welcome wine.

Wegner and his family are accommodated in a small room with no running water or a view of the lake and are treated badly by the hotel manager when they want to complain. Wegner, however, has another problem entirely; Elfriede is also in the hotel, in whose bed he woke up some time ago after a night of partying. She is now trying to blackmail him for a diamond ring, otherwise she could tell his wife about the nightly incident.

Daughter Gaby has now fallen in love with the waiter Walter, the nephew of the gamekeeper Anger. He runs a wildlife park not far from the hotel complex and has gotten heavily into debt. Wegner paid off the debts some time ago, so that Anger is about to sell the wooded area now that he cannot repay Wegner. He knows that Wegner wants to build holiday homes on the site, which is why he keeps postponing the last step. Above all, he wants to spare his niece Monika the bad news, since she grew up in nature.

Confusion occurs. Wegner let Berger know that everyone thinks he is the boss and Berger is taking advantage of his new “position of power”. Anger, on the other hand, approaches Berger with the request to reconsider the construction of the holiday home and Berger refuses in the role of Wegner. Since Berger's mother reads crime novels all the time, she suspects each of them to be a potential thief or kidnapper and suspects Elfriede of stealing a ring from her. Wegners, too, who had all of their jewelry put in the hotel safe, suspect a thief when their empty box is returned to them. In reality, her box was confused with that of Mrs. Berger. Wegner and Berger pursue Elfriede, who has left by ship, but are then in turn pursued by the police and end up in the wildlife park, where they can experience nature and originality first hand.

At Erich and Walter's insistence, Gaby appears in a talent competition organized by the hotel and sings two songs. Walter learns of Gaby's true identity from a friend and provokes her, whereupon she leaves him. Walter's friend, in turn, is a school friend of Gaby's, from whom she learns that Walter knows her true identity. Both make up in the end. And everything turns out to be good for Anger too. Since Wegner feels like a little boy again in the forest when the meat is finally grilled over an open fire, he gives up his construction plans; he now prefers to have the ranger's small hotel renovated in order to enable a holiday close to nature. The manager of the plant should continue to be Anger. And since Wegner confesses to his wife that night with Elfriede, he is also rid of the worry about the blackmail in the end.
