Wenzel from Linhart

Wenzel von Linhart (born June 6, 1821 in Seelowitz , Moravia , † October 22, 1877 in Würzburg ) was an Austrian physician. He was Hofrat, professor of surgery and senior physician at the Juliusspital in Würzburg .

Life

His father, a surgeon, had moved to Brno . In the autumn of 1838 Wenzel Linhart began studying medicine in Vienna , with Josef von Berres (1796-1844), where he received his doctorate in medicine in 1844. In February 1845 he came to the surgical institute headed by Joseph Wattmann von Maëlcamp-Beaulieu , where after a two-year course he became a doctor of surgery and received his diploma as a kk surgeon.

From 1845 to 1849 he was assistant in the lectures of Professor Johann von Dumreicher on surgical nosology and operation theory and was at the same time from February 1847 to March 1849 a secondary surgeon in the kk general hospital. In October / November 1848 he was a surgeon in the emergency hospital in Augarten . In March 1849 he became an assistant at the second surgical clinic led by Dumreicher.

He gave lectures on surgical anatomy and operative surgery, qualified as a professor for operative surgery in 1852 and became a private lecturer in this subject at the University of Vienna. After his private practice grew, he gave up his position in the hospital in 1853. In 1856 Wenzel Linhart was appointed to succeed Adolf Morawek (1816–1855) as full professor and professor at the surgical clinic in Würzburg .

For his services in caring for the wounded in the war against Prussia in 1866 near Würzburg, he was appointed royal Bavarian councilor in 1867 and was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Bavarian Crown . Associated with this was the elevation to the personal nobility. Linhart took part in the war against France in 1870/71 as general physician in the Bavarian Army . Repeated inflammation of the throat led to hearing loss. In the spring of 1877 he developed cancer of the tongue.
