||
Werna is a district of the town of Ellrich in the Nordhausen district in Thuringia .
location
Werna is located southeast of Ellrich and is affected by the state road 2073. It leads from the junction of the federal highway 4 at Niedersachswerfen via Appenrode to Ellrich at the foot of the southern roofing of the Harz Mountains . The village is traversed by the Sülze brook, which flows into the Zorge south of the village . The boundary of the agricultural village is subject to the karst phenomena of the Harz foreland, which means that the brawn and partly also the Zorge can dry out in months with little rainfall. Therefore, the agricultural soils are mostly far from groundwater. This area is interesting for tourists because of the peculiarities of flora and fauna .
history
Werna - also known as Elerina - was first mentioned in a document on May 18, 876. There was a manor in the village . The manor house of Baron von Spiegel zum Desenberg is a half-timbered building and reminds of this time, in need of renovation. The park and the water lily pond were also made accessible to visitors again.
The listed church of St. Johannis , a baroque patronage church consecrated in 1700, equipped with rich carvings, was closed by the building authorities in 1956 during the GDR era. It was renovated after the fall of the Wall and put back into service in 1995.
