Werner Klaas (born May 10, 1914 in Meggen , Westphalia , † March 26, 1945 ) was a German football player .

Klaas began playing football in his place of birth at the local VfB Meggen , which he continued at SC Brachbach 09 , a multi-discipline club in the Altenkirchen district south-west of Siegen . His father August Klaas , born in Brachbach and moved to Meggen with his wife at a young age, returned with his family to his place of birth in 1928 after his retirement and registered him and his brothers Hubert and Willi with the local sports club 09.
Drawn up for military service and transferred to Koblenz as a soldier , where he served in the telegraph barracks of the first infantry regiment, he was a member of the Koblenz district association FV Neuendorf from 1932 to 1939 . In the 1932/33 season he played for the club in the championship held by the West German Game Association in the Middle Rhine district point games. The 1933/34 , 1935/36 , 1936/37 and 1938/39 seasons he was in the Gauliga Mittelrhein , in one of initially 16, later increased to 23 Gauligen at the time of National Socialism as a uniform top division in the German Reich .
Selection / national team
Klaas came to his only international match on March 21, 1937 in Luxembourg as one of numerous talents with whom the DFB tested as part of the rebuilding of the senior national team after the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin . The test match, in which he formed a defensive line with Hans Appel , was won 3-2 against the Luxembourg national team in front of 12,000 spectators . In 1939, as a member of the German student selection, he was used in Vienna in the game against the Austrian student selection.
Others
A few weeks before the end of the Second World War , Klaas died as a soldier between March 30 and April 3, 1945 in the Nitratal in Slovakia . According to statements by the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge , his remains have not been found to this day.
