life and work
Koch grew up in Bad Kösen . There he first completed a craft training. In 1966 he moved from the GDR to the West and began studying free and applied painting at the Werkkunstschule in Dortmund with Gustav Deppe . At the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich , he attended Ernst Geitlinger's class .
Koch, now a family man, settled in a village in the Weserbergland . After a long break he attended Fritz Winter's class as a master student at the State University of Fine Arts in Kassel . Between 1967 and 1971 collages were made from postcards. From 1971 to 1985 he earned his living as a teacher at a technical school for social education . From 1975 he lived and worked in Hameln.
After a stay in New York in 1984, Koch made the decision to devote himself entirely to art and has been working as a freelance artist ever since. From 1985 onwards, pictures with newspapers played an important role, which he used as a base for gouaches and drawings. From 1991 he stayed in Manhattan for regular work stays . After that he often worked in series on subjects of the big city. Koch also created temporary installations in church rooms. He uses Christian symbols from enlarged newspaper clippings of international origin. In the work from 2010 onwards, dealing with Dadaism and children's drawings plays an important role.
