Werner Leidenfrost (also Werner Leidenfrosten and Wernerus Leidenfrostus and Guernerius Leidenfrostius and variants; born November 20, 1614 in Schnega , † June 17, 1673 in Hanover ) was a German Protestant theologian .

Life

Werner Leidenfrost was the son of the preacher Martinus Leidenfrost, who worked in Schnega in the Duchy of Braunschweig-Lüneburg , and Catharina Lüdeken, daughter of Georg Lüdeken , who worked in Riebrau . After the first instruction in his parents' house, he first attended schools in the neighboring towns before his parents sent him to the Martino-Katharineum in Braunschweig for four years at the age of 17 . From February 1636 he attended the Julius University in Helmstedt for a few years .

He then became vice-rector in the nearby town of Schöningen , then, as successor to Franz Hagius, in 1647 rector of the Anna-Sophianeum Latin School , where he worked for a total of around 11 years.

In 1648, Leidenfrost married Dorothea Klinggräfin.

With a scholarship at the expense of the sovereignty, Leidenfrost had meanwhile completed his doctorate in Helmstedt with a master's degree. 1651 - his successor in Schöningen joined Johann Joachim Maderus to - was he in Hannover to that of the church elected a majority preacher at the Jacobi and Georgii Church called and "by the gracious country-Prince confirmiret". In this role he left numerous funeral sermons for his contemporaries.

In 1672, Leidenfrost felt "some narrow-chestedness and swelling in both legs", whereupon the city ​​physician and the court medicus were consulted, but finally the drugs did not achieve the desired lasting effect. After looking for a long time, one leg became infected, soon followed by fever and diarrhea , but Leidenfrost managed to say goodbye to his family little by little before, after 23 years in office, on June 17, 1673 at the age of 58 Hanover died. In 1648, Leidenfrost married the maiden Dorothea Klinggräfin, daughter of Hieronymus Klinggräfen, princely bailiff of Brunswick-Lüneburg in Vienenburg in Hildesheim monastery and later in Westerburg in Halberstadt monastery . The marriage had seven children, six of whom survived their father. All three sons studied in Jena and Helmstedt in the year their father died. One of the three was the future pastor Jakob Eberhard Leidenfrost, another Justus Werner Leidenfrost .

Werner Leidenfrost's eldest daughter married the preacher in Wilkenburg , Magister Ernst August Stisser , and was finally able to show her father his first grandchild 14 days before his death.
