Werner Lierse

Werner Lierse (born November 5, 1928 in Berlin , † April 21, 1993 in Hamburg ) was a German anatomist and university professor in Hamburg.

Life

After graduating from high school in 1949, Lierse began training as a dentist until he was able to start studying medicine at the Free University of Berlin in 1954 . After the state examination, he was awarded a Dr. med. PhD . He went to Kurt Goerttler as a research assistant in the anatomy department of the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . There he was the first to examine the smooth muscles of the uterus . In 1959 he moved to Ernst Horstmann in anatomy at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf . In 1961 , he completed his habilitation on brain capillaries . After a short time as a professor at the University of Basel , he accepted the call to the Hamburg chair for neuroanatomy in 1969 . His special interest in clinical anatomy, especially the muscles of the esophagus and rectum , earned him the friendly cooperation with many surgeons . Even as a private lecturer, he renewed anatomical teaching. His lectures were famous. He supervised 150 doctoral students and seven own and many non-subject habilitation students , including Alexander Rauchfuss and Rüdiger Döhler . He produced three anatomy ordinaries and stood for 286 publications. He wrote five and edited 26 monographs . For many years he was editor of Acta Anatomica and Bibliotheca Anatomica. In 1991/92 he was President of Rotary International in Norderstedt . At the age of 64, he died in his institute of a ruptured aortic aneurysm . He left behind his wife Ingeborg, with whom he had been married since 1956. He is buried in the Heidefriedhof in Quickborn .
