Werner Paulussen

Werner Paulussen (born April 5, 1960 in Birkenfeld ) is a German industrial designer . In 1992 he founded Paulussen Design & Consulting in Düsseldorf-Oberkassel .

Life

Paulussen studied communication design at the Trier University of Applied Sciences and industrial design at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal .

After graduating, Paulussen worked at the “Studio Produktgestaltung” design office, where he played a key role in the development of the Lexion combine harvester and the Jaguar forage harvester for Claas . Other projects included bicycle locks, electronic devices and household appliances.

Since 1994 Paulussen has been in charge of the Transportation Design division with a focus on trams for Siemens AG and has worked here as the responsible designer for over 50 projects worldwide. Vehicles with a Paulussen design drive in 21 cities: Potsdam , Karlsruhe , Augsburg , Freiburg im Breisgau , Erfurt , Nordhausen , Duisburg , Düsseldorf , Ulm , Cologne , Basel , Bern , Hiroshima , Bursa , Athens , Amsterdam , Posen , Melbourne , Almada and Budapest . In Dalian there is a plagiarism of the Combino .

His best-known work is the Combino low-floor tram for Siemens , which he has looked after from the first draft in 1994 to the present day. The design is characterized by very clear, unambiguous lines and at the same time by high functionality, good ergonomics and the strong consideration of economy and ease of maintenance. The Combino was in 1997 with the Design Award of North Rhine-Westphalia and the design award 1998 red dot design award awarded by the Design Zentrum NRW. The plagiarism in Dalian received the negative Plagiarius award .

Other vehicles designed by Paulussen are the two-system Stadtbahn Karlsruhe with bistro, the high-floor trams for Bursa (Turkey), the CitySprinter light rail for Cologne, the SkyTrain for Düsseldorf Airport, a low-floor tram for Bergen , Norway, design studies for the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe and trolleybuses from Vossloh Kiepe for Athens.

In addition to vehicle design , important work includes electronic terminals for Siemens, passenger safety systems for Vossloh Kiepe and the Primus 2 system wheelchair for Meyra . This was awarded the Design Prize IF of the Hanover Industry Forum in 1998 and the Design Prize of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia in 1999.

Paulussen is a member of the professional associations Deutscher Designer-Verband eV DDV , VDID, the Alliance of German Designers and the Deutscher Werkbund and has been invited to lectures on transportation design in public transport by RWTH Aachen University , IDZ and the Association of German Transport Companies.
