Westerende-Holzloog has been part of the East Frisian community of Ihlow in Lower Saxony since the municipal reform of July 1, 1972 . The place had 380 inhabitants in October 2013.

The name of the village is explained by the once wooded area. As Loog in are Jeverland , Ostfriesland and parts of the Emsland closed villages called.
history
In historical times the place was more important. Before the construction of the Treckfahrtstiefs (a forerunner of the Ems-Jade Canal ) in the 17th century, the place was more important as a port with connections to Emden and Oldersum . From here the Westerender Ehe, a small river, was navigable.
Today the place is characterized by agriculture.
