history

The place was first mentioned by name in 1431 as Ochtelburen or Uterlabur . The place may be older. The name could originally have been Osterburen , which means that they are the eastern neighbors of Riepe. The church in Ochtelbur dates from the Middle Ages .

The German writer Heinrich Reimers was while working as a country pastor in the parish actively Ochtelbur.

Since the regional reform , which came into force on July 1, 1972, Ochtelbur has belonged to the municipality of Ihlow.

Others

There is no big club life in Ochtelbur . The only organization in the village is the volunteer fire brigade , which was founded in 1945. The biggest event of the year is therefore the so-called Midsummer Night's Party , which is held by the fire brigade's association .

There is currently a bakery in Ochtelbur , a long-established agricultural machinery workshop selling gardening equipment, a gas-water heating company, a bank with an affiliated Raiffeisen cooperative, an Allianz agency, a construction company, a hardware store or building materials specialist, a timber house company, a tile and a Window manufacturing company. Over the past decade, Ochelbur has grown through numerous building areas.

The ridding flows through the village. Until 1970 there was a primary school (formerly a primary school), which was then relocated to Riepe.

At the moment (as of 2017) there is a lively discussion as to whether a federal road connecting the A 31 with Aurich and the coastal towns (B 210n) should be built.
