Location and surroundings
The western Marzellspitze is roughly in the middle of the Schnalskamm, which runs from west to east. The neighboring mountains in the mountain range are the Similaun ( 3599 m ) in the west and the Mittlere Marzellspitze ( 3532 m ) in the east . The mountain flanks that break off to the south and form part of the Texel Group Nature Park fall to the Grafferner , while the Marzellferner extends to the north .
Alpinism
The first known ascent of the Westliche Marzellspitze goes back to Moritz von Statzer, who reached the summit on September 30, 1870 accompanied by the guides Alois Ennemoser and Gabriel Spechtenhauser.
The western Marzellspitze can only be climbed as a high alpine tour with appropriate equipment over glaciers.
