Westwind - Wir Nordrhein-Westfalen in Berlin is an association founded on March 8, 2008 in the "Embassy of the West", the representation of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia at the federal government . The association wants in the capital and in Brandenburg for North Rhine-Westphalia advertise, inform the largest state politics, business and science, art, culture and sport, the Rhine countries, Westphalia and slippers in Berlin to live and work, provide a network available .
Concern and story
The association is primarily aimed at citizens who come from North Rhine-Westphalia and whose center of life has shifted to Berlin or Brandenburg due to work or private circumstances . The founding of the association by the NRW state representation and the cooperation between the state representation and Westwind eV are not least related to a change in political attitudes towards the question: Who is a citizen of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia? Traditionally, this includes the country's residents. A new perspective - at least in Germany - is to continue to regard and treat those who have “emigrated” from the state as North Rhine-Westphalia. The representative of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia at the federal government praised Westwind eV in her address at the 2014 general meeting as “a unique, unprecedented project ..., a home network that actively promotes its state with public events. There is no second time in the federal capital! "
The association sees itself as a network of personalities from politics, business, science and culture. Through joint ventures, they would like to strengthen the feeling of togetherness in North Rhine-Westphalia in Berlin and represent their state informally. In the association's statutes it says: "We want to inform about innovations in society, economy and culture in our country and win sympathy for our regions of origin. Our attention is particularly focused on the education of young people, the support of young talents and the promotion of fresh ideas from North Rhine-Westphalia. Westphalia."
Christoph Kannengießer was the founding chairman of the association from 2008 to 2014. On May 14, 2014, Erik Bettermann , the long-time director of Deutsche Welle , was elected chairman of Westwind. Erik Bettermann left the Board of Management on August 22, 2017. Leo Dautzenberg was elected as the new chairman on March 13, 2018 . He is currently supported by a board of five .
Club activities
The association organizes numerous events and projects related to NRW in Berlin, most of which take place in the representation of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia at the federal level. Westwind activities include exhibitions, studio visits, city tours and guided tours of the capital's sights, readings, concerts, cabaret events, "Westwind political talks" with MPs from North Rhine-Westphalia , participation in plenary meetings of the Federal Council and flying visits to institutions of the Politics, administration and economy, art and culture in Berlin. The Westwind cooperates with a large number of partners.
Since December 2015, the association has been presenting a series of talks under the title "NRW - very personal" at regular intervals: In the "Embassy of the West", celebrities from North Rhine-Westphalia report on their lives, professional activities and their connection to NRW.
