Dagmar Reim (2010)

Dagmar Reim (born November 4, 1951 in Heidelberg ) is a German journalist and was director of the Berlin-Brandenburg radio station (RBB) until 2016 . In May 2003 she took over the management of the RBB, making her the first woman to head a public broadcaster in Germany.

education

Dagmar Reim grew up in a "well-functioning matriarchy with mother, grandmother and great-grandmother" in Lorsch in southern Hesse and graduated from a Catholic high school for girls. She then studied history, German and journalism at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz and the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich with a highly gifted scholarship from the Cusanuswerk . In 1975 she completed her studies with a Magister artium (MA).

Professional background

From 1975 to 1979 Dagmar Reim worked as a radio editor, reporter and presenter at Bayerischer Rundfunk ( BR ) in Munich in the youth radio and time radio / politics editorial offices. She played a key role in founding the program Zündfunk .

In 1979 she switched to Westdeutscher Rundfunk ( WDR ) in Cologne. There she worked for the morning magazine and the midday magazine of WDR 2 as well as in the commentary.

In 1986 Dagmar Reim went to the North German Broadcasting Corporation ( NDR ) in Hamburg as radio editor , where she headed the press office from 1992 and was an ARD spokesperson for two years (1993/1994) . In 1995 she became editor-in-chief of NDR radio and program division manager of NDR 4 (today: NDR Info ). From 1998 to 2003 she was director of the NDR-Landesfunkhaus Hamburg.

In 2001, she withdrew her candidacy for the ZDF director post after the second ballot.

Since 2003 Dagmar Reim has been the artistic director of Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (rbb). She won the election as founding director against three opposing candidates, including the favored then WDR television director Ulrich Deppendorf . In 2007, the Broadcasting Council confirmed her for a second term, and in 2012 for a third term as director from May 1, 2013 to April 30, 2018. However, she gave up this post on June 30, 2016 for private reasons.

Director of the rbb

In the first term of office (2003-2008) as director, Dagmar Reim merged the broadcaster Free Berlin (SFB) and the Ostdeutscher Rundfunk Brandenburg (ORB) to form Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (rbb) and secured the position of the new broadcaster as a member of the working group of the public broadcasters of the Federal Republic of Germany ( ARD ). The merged broadcaster should not only be a model for further reforms within the ARD, but should also establish itself in the media market of the capital region. To this end, Dagmar Reim and her team created new internal structures in the first five years. Between 2003 and 2013, the rbb cut 300 jobs in a socially acceptable way, i.e. without any redundancies .

The second term of office (2008–2013) in Reims was characterized, among other things, by the switch to multimedia production processes. As the first broadcaster in ARD with its own television program, the rbb introduced a multimedia program management for radio, television and online in 2009. Reim campaigned for a structural adjustment, i.e. a fairer distribution of fee money within the ARD. Nevertheless, due to financial problems, the rbb had to discontinue the radio program radiomultikulti on January 1, 2009 and has been broadcasting on the frequency ever since Funkhaus Europa from WDR in cooperation with Radio Bremen . In the course of the closure of radiomultikulti, which was accompanied by a large protest, Reim was also personally attacked, although the majority of the Broadcasting Council supported their decision.

Large-scale documentary TV projects such as “ 24h Berlin ” (2009) and “ 20 x Brandenburg ” (2010) were successful . The radio programs of the rbb ( Antenne Brandenburg , radioBERLIN 88,8 , Inforadio , radioeins , kulturradio and Fritz ) regularly achieved top positions in one of the most competitive radio markets in Europe in the semi-annual media analyzes. Reim succeeded in the economic consolidation of the rbb before the changeover from the license fee to the license fee .

After losing market share in 2011, Reim admitted deficits in the program and in February 2012 announced a program reform for rbb television. More regional content and more space for innovations are two of the main focuses. During the Reims tenure, the proportion of women in management positions in the rbb has risen to 43.4 percent.

At the end of November 2015, Reim announced that it would leave the company prematurely for personal reasons and that it would be giving up its directorship at the end of June 2016 - two years before the end of the contract period.

Memberships and supervisory board mandates

Private life

Dagmar Reim is married to Rudolf Großkopff , the former deputy editor-in-chief of the German General Sunday newspaper and art commissioner for the NDR and rbb. She has two sons of her own and two children by marriage.

criticism

On December 17th, 2008, the Berlin magazine tip voted Dagmar Reim into the list of the ten “most embarrassing Berliners” for her role in the shutdown of the multikulti radio station and for her reaction to the resulting discussion. In the same context in the newspaper Neues Deutschland it was critically mentioned in an article on December 31, 2008. On December 31, 2008, the radio station radiomultikulti was switched off despite numerous protests. The reason for the closure, however, was the radical cut in the budget after the merger of the SFB and the ORB, see job cuts described above.
