Wetka ( Belarusian Ветка ) is a city in Homelskaya Woblasz in Belarus . It is the administrative center of Wetka Rajon .

Wetka is located 22 kilometers from the city of Gomel .
history
Wetka was founded in 1685 and was located on the territory of Poland-Lithuania . In the years 1735 and 1764 the place was burned down by invading Russian troops and the majority of the population was forced to settle in the eastern parts of Russia. During the First Partition of Poland , Wetka was incorporated into the Russian Empire .
In 1918 the place was part of the Belarusian People's Republic . From 1919 it belonged to the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic .
In 1925 Wetka received city status. On December 8, 1926, it became the center of Veka Rajon. From August 18, 1941 to September 28, 1943, the place was under German occupation.
The place was radioactively contaminated in the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster .
Attractions
There is a Museum of Ancient Beliefs and Belarusian Traditions in Wetka. The city also has a Church of the Intercession of the Virgin and a church and monastery of the Virgin from the 17th century.
