When the Curtain Falls is a song by the American classic rock band Greta Van Fleet . It was the first single from the debut album Anthem of the Peaceful Army .
Emergence
The song was recorded at Blackbird Studios in Nashville and at Rustbelt Studios in Royal Oak . The song was produced by Al Sutton, Marlon Young and Herschel Boone, also known collectively as The Rust Brothers . Lyrically, the song is about a person who has fallen from grace and is now trying to get by in life.
The single was released on July 17, 2018. On 26 July 2018, the band played the song at the NBC telecast The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon . A music video was shot for the song , of which there are two versions. In addition to the regular version, there is also a so-called “vertical video”, in which the image is intentionally shown upright. To give the video an old-fashioned look, a Super 8 filter was used.

Dominik Rothe from the German online magazine Metal.de described When the Curtain Falls as a "crisp rocker who wouldn't stand out on any of the first four Zeppelin albums". Chris Conaton from the online magazine Pop Matters wrote in a review of the album that Greta Van Fleet only managed to present an "independent, memorable song" with the third song When the Curtain Falls . The song would be "a good choice for the first single because it has a memorable chorus". Jonathan Walzer from the online magazine Powermetal.de, on the other hand, wondered why When the Curtain Falls was chosen as the first single because it wouldn't be the catchiest song on the album.
Like the two previous singles Highway Tune and Safari Song , When the Curtain Falls reached number one on the US Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs . Greta Van Fleet achieved three number one titles in 16 months and missed The Pretty Reckless record by a week. At the Detroit Music Awards 2019, When the Curtain Falls was recognized in the categories Outstanding National Single and Outstanding Video / Major Budget .
