You're the One is a song by the American classic rock band Greta Van Fleet . It was the second single from the debut album Anthem of the Peaceful Army .

Emergence

You're the One is the oldest song written for the album and was written in 2013 when twins Jake and Josh Kiszka were only 17 years old. Guitarist Jake Kiszka played a "jingling" progression in his parents' garage while his brother and singer Josh left the garage and began singing to the music. The musicians at the time were heavily influenced by folk musicians such as Bob Dylan , The Band , Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez . According to Jake Kiszka, it's a love song , which "would be particularly popular with girls". Greta Van Fleet played the song at concerts long before the album was released, but changed the song over and over again.

The song was recorded at Blackbird Studios in Nashville and at Rustbelt Studios in Royal Oak . The song was produced by Al Sutton, Marlon Young and Herschel Boone, also known collectively as The Rust Brothers . Bassist Sam Kiszka plays a Hammond organ on the song . The single was released on October 16, 2018. On January 19, 2019, the band appeared in the NBC telecast Saturday Night Live and played alongside You're the One nor the song Black Smoke Rising .

reception

Jonathan Walzer from the online magazine Powermetal.de reminds the guitar harmonies of the song of the Eagles and described the song as the "most modern of the troupe". Waltz described the increasingly powerful sounds of Hammond as "bangers". According to Jörg Staude from the German magazine Rock Hard , the keyboard (sic!) In the song would be " addicting ". Chris Conanton by the online magazine Pop Matters remember the harmonies in the chorus of Crosby, Stills and Nash , but would drummer David Wagner the same old Hard Rock - fills play.

You're the One reached number one on Billboard's mainstream rock songs . The band had previously done this with the singles Highway Tune , Safari Song and When the Curtain Falls .
