Highway Tune is a song by the American classic rock band Greta Van Fleet . It was the first single from the debut EP Black Smoke Rising .

Emergence

The song Highway Tune is the first song the band wrote and recorded together. The introductory guitar riff , according to guitarist Jake Kiszka, dates back to 2010, seven years before the song was released and two years before the band was founded. After the band was founded, the band continued to work on the song. After two demo recordings , the song was finally finished. The song was released as a single on March 31, 2017. A music video for the song was filmed in an abandoned warehouse and released exclusively through the online magazine Loudwire on April 19, 2017 . Highway Tune appeared on both the EP Black Smoke Rising and the subsequent EP From the Fires .

reception

According to Don Tice of the online magazine Blues Rock Review , Highway Tune is “a reminiscence of the early days of Led Zeppelin ”, especially the “rough, unadulterated screams like the song Communication Breakdown ”. Anthony Frisketti from the online magazine Cryptic Rock described the song's groove as "infectious". In some moments you can hear AC / DC's Angus Young "in the guitar riffs". The song peaked at number one on Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs , the Billboard Active Rock Charts, and the Canadian Active Rock Radio Charts in September 2017 . At that time, the song was streamed over 3.8 million times on Spotify and the music video was viewed over two million times on YouTube .

The song was nominated for Best Rock Performance at the 2019 Grammy Awards . However, the award went to Chris Cornell . In Canada , Highway Tune was awarded gold in 2018 and platinum a year later.

Re-use

In January 2016, the song became Away with it! used from the American television series Shameless . The American audio company Bose Corporation published a commercial in cooperation with the National Football League in October 2018 . The spot shows the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz sitting in a diner . Since he cannot concentrate because of the noise, he puts on sound-canceling headphones made by the Bose company and listens to the song Highway Tune .
