The British Sydney Wooderson was European champion , who won ahead of the Belgian Joseph Mostert . Third place went to the Italian Luigi Beccali .

Record improvement
The British 800 meter world record holder Sydney Wooderson improved the European Championship record in the final by exactly one second to 3: 53.6 minutes as the new 1500 meter European champion .
