backgrounds

Pia Zadora had tried herself as an actress with moderate success in the early 1980s and wanted to devote herself more to a career as a singer . The producer Jack White should help her with this. The song was composed by Michael Bradley and Steve Wittmack, the lyrics come from the well-known pop singer Peggy March. Zadora first recorded a version with a backup singer . Don King , an acquaintance of both Jermaine Jackson and Zadora, heard this version and was delighted with the song. He introduced it to Jackson, who was also fond of the song. Both Jackson and Zadora wanted commercial success and they recorded the original song under the direction of Jack White, as well as a Spanish-language version entitled Si se pone a llover . Jack White also produced a successful German-language version with Lena Valaitis and Costa Cordalis and the title When the rain falls on us .

The song became a top ten hit in numerous European countries , while it only reached number 54 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US . Like the single, the movie Voyage of the Rock Aliens , in which the song was used, was a failure in the United States. In Germany, the success of the song Pia Zadora made it a cameo in the comedy film Der Formel Eins Film .

Music video

The video, shot in the Italian coastal town of Sperlonga , shows Jermaine Jackson's motorcycle clique, all men with dark skin, waiting for Pia Zadora's clique of white-clad men with light skin. When both cliques meet, Jackson begins to sing. They both meet again in a bar. Later, the members of the clique disappear from the bar and Zadora flees. After Jackson and Zadora flee again, they are found in a forest. A fight ensues, and in the end Zadora's clique flees on their motorcycles. The video was directed by Bob Giraldi. The clip also shows parts of the film Voyage of the Rock Aliens .
