Why Do Fools Fall in Love is the eleventh studio album by Diana Ross . It was released in September 1981 and was named after the song of the same name.

Why Do Fool's Fall in Love was the first Diana Ross album after separating from Motown and the first to be released by RCA Records . It was named after a cover by Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers , which opened the album. The song Sweet Nothings is also a hit from the 1950s and was written by Ronnie Self for Brenda Lee . The album contains compositions by various songwriters written for Ross. Most of the compositions are by keyboardist Ray Chew. Ross himself only took part in the songwriting of Work that Body . There is also a solo version of the duet Endless Love with Lionel Richie .
Why Do Fools Fall in Love was Diana Ross' most successful album in the 1980s, alongside Diana . After the Diana album , it was the second Ross album to go platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America . The album also achieved gold status in Finland.
