Wilhelm Ahrbeck

Wilhelm Ahrbeck (full name: Friedrich Wilhelm Ahrbeck * 13. November 1802 in Hannover , † 6. March 1883 ) was a Royal Hanoverian official, educator and calligrapher , beetles - collectors and private tutor in the house of Guelph .

Life

Friedrich Wilhelm Ahrbeck was born at the beginning of the 19th century in the royal seat of Hanover, which was temporarily orphaned by the personal union between Great Britain and Hanover, and grew up during the so-called " French era ". In his younger years he received an education for his later profession corresponding to his inclination for calligraphy .

After the elevation of the former electorate of Hanover to a kingdom, Ahrbeck first got a job as a copyist at the provisional meeting of the state of Hanover in 1818 , then in 1822 a job at the Royal Treasury .

After Ahrbeck had been asked from various quarters to teach calligraphy, he acquired various handwriting, initially for private lessons , not least in accordance with the wishes of his students .

In 1835, Ahrbeck received the - long-awaited - offer of a job as a teacher of calligraphy at the public institution for the then newly founded high school . In the following year, 1852, Wilhelm Ahrbeck donated an initially small collection of beetles to the Natural History Society of Hanover , which, however, soon grew to almost 8,000 species and variants in more than 600 genres thanks to other donors . In the address book of the royal residence city of Hanover from 1860, the collection of beetles compiled by the Ahrberg chancellery was listed under the heading “Natural history private collections” .

Almost two decades after the annexation of Hanover by Prussia , Wilhelm Ahrbeck died in Hanover on March 6, 1883 during the founding period of the German Empire .
