Wilhelm Freydanck

Wilhelm Christian Gottfried Freydanck (born February 24, 1796 in Schorstedt , † February 2, 1878 in Dresden ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 8th Infantry Brigade .

Life

Wilhelm was the son of the preacher von Schorstedt Johann Jakob Freydanck (1748–1800) and his wife Maria Sophie Elisabeth, née Bornemann (* 1765).

Military career

In the run-up to the Wars of Liberation , Freydanck joined the 1st Silesian Hussar Regiment of the Prussian Army as a volunteer hunter on March 10, 1813 . During the campaigns he fought in the sieges of Longwy, Erfurt , Magdeburg and was wounded in the storming of Rodemacher. On March 8, 1814 he was promoted to secondary lieutenant and transferred to the 1st Elb Landwehr Regiment and on May 16, 1815 to the 4th Elb Landwehr Regiment. On September 3, 1815, he was posted to the 32nd Infantry Regiment and transferred to the 31st Infantry Regiment on December 8, 1815 .

By mid-June 1831 Freydanck had advanced to captain and company commander . On December 31, 1834, he was subsequently awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class for Longwy . On March 30, 1839 he was transferred to the 13th Landwehr Regiment as major and commander of the 1st Battalion. From March 31, 1846 to March 21, 1849 Freydanck was active in the 13th Infantry Regiment . He then became the leader of a combined Landwehr regiment in the VII Army Corps and was promoted to lieutenant colonel in this position at the beginning of May 1849 . On July 21, 1849 he was appointed commander of the 15th Infantry Regiment and on January 18, 1850 he was promoted to colonel . As such, Freydanck received the Order of the Red Eagle III at the end of June 1852 . Class with a bow. On May 23, 1854, he was then commander of the 8th Infantry Brigade and in mid-July 1852 set à la suite of his previous regiment. In addition, Freydanck was promoted to major general on July 13, 1854. Freydanck married on July 22, 1824 in Erfurt Johanna Ernestine Rappe (1799–1843), a daughter of the Erfurt wine merchant Johann Gottfried Rappe. The couple had several children:

  • Hermann Gustav Adolf (* 1825)
  • Otto Rudolf Albert (* 1827), canvas manufacturer in Bonn

After the death of his first wife, he married Auguste Hermine Veith (1820–1890) in Dortmund on August 17, 1845.
