Wilhelm von Plettenberg zu Lenhausen (* around 1652; † February 2, 1711 ) was Colonel and Land Commander of the Teutonic Order and Canon of Speyer.

Wilhelm grew up as the son of Bernhard von Plettenberg zu Lenhausen (1615–1679) and his wife Odilia von Fürstenberg zu Schnellenberg and Waterlappe (1617–1683) in one of the oldest and most important Westphalian noble families . His siblings were

Life

Plettenberg studied at the University of Paderborn until 1665 . After the resignation of his brother Friedrich Christian von Plettenberg , he became canon in Speyer that same year . In 1674 he was Commander of Coming Brackel as a knight of the Teutonic Order . He was then from 1679 to 1688 Komtur der Kommende Welheim . He was also a colonel of an infantry regiment in the service of the Prince Diocese of Paderborn and the Monastery of Münster . In 1688 Plettenberg was elected governor of the Teutonic Order in the Westphalia district. From 1690 he was Landkomtur der Landkommende Mühlheim and took his leave as Colonel.

During his tenure as Landkomtur, the construction of the Church of St. Margaretha began in the Kommende Mülheim , in which he was also buried.

Von-Plettenberg-Strasse in Mülheim is named after him.
