William Craig Smith

William Craig Smith (born December 9, 1918 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , † August 22, 1986 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American production designer and art director .

Life

Smith began his film staff career in 1950 with television. By 1957 he worked on nearly 300 episodes of the CBS television series Lux Video Theater . For this he was nominated for the Primetime Emmy for the first time in 1956 . This was followed by engagements in television series such as Twilight Zone , Gilligan's Island , Hawaii Five-Zero and Smoking Colts . Smith received his second Emmy nomination in 1980 for the pilot episode of the short-lived television series Skag, starring Karl Malden .

In 1979 he first worked as a production designer for a feature film on John Frankenheimer's Die Prophezeiung . In the early 1980s he worked as art director for Blake Edwards on his comedies SOB - Hollywood's Last Howler and Victor / Victoria . 1983 he was responsible for Edwards' comedy of Victor / Victoria , along with Rodger Mouse , Tim Hutchinson and Harry Cordwell for the Oscar in the category Best Production Design nominated, but the award went this year to Gandhi .

Smith died in Los Angeles in 1986 at the age of 67 .
