William E. Snyder
William E. Snyder (born September 21, 1901 in New York , † March 4, 1984 in California ) was an American cameraman .
Life
William E. Snyder worked as a cameraman in Hollywood from 1939 , where he was used in numerous Technicolor films, including the comedies Das Korsarenschiff ( The Princess and the Pirate , 1944) with Bob Hope and Der Wundermann ( Wonder Man , 1945) with Danny Kaye , the western Der Richter von Colorado ( The Man from Colorado , 1948) with Glenn Ford and the two John Wayne films Steel Wings ( Flying Leathernecks , 1951) and The Conqueror ( The Conqueror , 1956).
Over the years Snyder has received three Oscar nominations in the Best Cinematography category , for example for the South Seas adventure Aloma, the daughter of the South Seas ( Aloma of the South Seas , 1941), for the Prosper-Mérimée film adaptation of The Loves of Seville ( The Loves of Carmen , 1948) with Rita Hayworth and for the film musical Jolson Sings Again (1949).
From the 1950s onwards, Snyder often worked for American television. He put, among other things, 17 episodes of the western series Bonanza (1960-1961) and two episodes of Spaceship Enterprise ( Star Trek , 1966) in scene. In 1971, Snyder, who was a member of the American Society of Cinematographers , retired from show business.
