William Goh

William Goh Seng Chye (born June 25, 1957 in Singapore ) is Archbishop of Singapore .

Life

William Goh studied Philosophy at the Major Seminary in Penang, Malaysia, Catholic Theology at the Major Seminary in Singapore. He was ordained a priest on May 1, 1985 by Archbishop Gregory Yong Sooi Ngean . After his vicariate in Singapore, he completed a theological license at the Gregorian in Rome. On his return he took over the parish of St. Anne in Singapore in 1992/1993, but was appointed professor at the Singapore Seminary in 1992. He has been Rector of St. Francis Xavier Major Seminary in Singapore since 2005 .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on December 29, 2012 as Coadjutor Archbishop of Singapore. The Apostolic Nuncio , Leopoldo Girelli , donated him episcopal ordination on February 22, 2013 ; Co- consecrators were Murphy Nicholas Xavier Pakiam , Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur , and Nicholas Chia , Archbishop of Singapore.

With the acceptance by Pope Francis of Nicholas Chia for reasons of age on May 20, 2013 , he succeeded Chia in the office of Archbishop of Singapore.
