William Robert Johnson

William Robert Johnson (born November 19, 1918 in Tonopah , Nevada , USA; † July 28, 1986 in Orange , California , USA) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Orange, California .

Life

William Robert Johnson grew up in Los Angeles . He received on 28 May 1944, the sacrament of Holy Orders , after which he earned a degree in social work at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC

Pope Paul VI appointed him on February 19, 1971 titular bishop of Blera and auxiliary bishop in Los Angeles . The episcopal ordination received his Archbishop Timothy Manning on March 25 of that year; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of San Francisco , Joseph Thomas McGucken , and the Bishop of Sacramento , Alden John Bell .

On March 24, 1976, Pope Paul VI appointed him. first Bishop of Orange in California .

From 1984 the diocese received an auxiliary bishop, John Steinbock , who henceforth represented Johnson in some matters, as Johnson himself was weakened by kidney problems. Johnson spent his final months in a wheelchair. He died of a bacterial infection on July 28, 1986 at St. Joseph Hospital, Orange. Johnson was buried in the Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Orange.
