William Ware Theiss
William Ware Theiss (born November 20, 1930 in Boston , Massachusetts , USA ; † December 15, 1992 in San Francisco , California , USA ) was an American costume designer .
Short biography
Theiss was born to Harold Hodgson Theiss and Helen Theiss and was named after his grandfather William Hodgson and his grandmother Ellen (Ware) Hodgson.
Theiss was the costume designer for all three seasons of Spaceship Enterprise between 1966 and 1969 and thus provided the basis for all other costumes to be used in Star Trek .
In the 1970s and 1980s Theiss was responsible for the costumes for several television and cinema films, and was nominated three times for an Oscar in the category of best costume design ; however, he always came away empty-handed.
In the last few years of his life, he also created the wardrobe for Spaceship Enterprise: The Next Century , winning an Emmy in 1988 .
William Ware Theiss, who was homosexual , died at the age of 62 of complications from AIDS .
