Willoughby Goddard

Willoughby Goddard (born July 4, 1926 in Bicester , Oxfordshire , † April 11, 2008 ) was a British actor .

Life

Goddard made his first appearance as an actor at the Oxford Playhouse Theater in 1943. Goddard was severely overweight throughout his life ; Although this restricted him in the choice of roles, he was successful in television, cinema and theater for over 40 years.

Mainly Goddard impersonated authority figures in his roles; he often played judges, professors, mayors or managers. In the theater he often played plays by Dickens ( Oliver Twist ) and Shakespeare (including Othello , Was ihr wollt ). In 1963 he played the play Oliver on Broadway ! .

On television, he appeared in the Disney film adaptation of Return to Treasure Island and the miniseries The Last Days of Pompeii . He was a well-booked guest actor in British television series, from a secret assignment for John Drake to Simon Templar , With Umbrella, Charm and Melon to Moon Base Alpha 1 . He also played in 39 episodes 1958/1959 the bailiff Gessler in the television series The Adventures of William Tell .

His feature film roles included the Steven Spielberg production The Secret of the Hidden Temple .
