The Pamsendorf wind farm is a wind farm in the municipality of the town of Pfreimd in the Upper Palatinate district of Schwandorf in Bavaria.

geography

The Pamsendorf wind farm is located in the central Upper Palatinate Forest , around 8 km east of the town of Pfreimd at an altitude of around 590 meters on the site west of the Großer Kulm, two kilometers east of the village of Pamsendorf and around 2 km southwest of the village of Gleiritsch . It can be reached via the district roads SAD 34 or SAD 36. It is the second forest wind farm in the Schwandorf district. According to the operator, the annual standard energy capacity corresponds to the consumption of 7,000 households, assuming an assumed consumption of 4,000 kWh per household per year.

Pamsendorf wind turbine and technology

The five wind turbines in the Pamsendorf wind farm are low-wind turbines from Nordex, which have been specially developed for weaker wind locations (up to 7.5 m / s average annual wind speed). The wind turbines running at 7.5 to 13.2 revolutions per minute deliver electricity at a wind speed of three meters per second. A particularly large rotor area is characteristic of such wind power plants in order to be able to generate very good yields even at low wind speeds. The five wind turbines are of the Nordex N117 / 2.4 type. They have a rotor length of 58.5 m and a hub height of 141 m. The 141-meter tower consists of precast concrete elements in the lower area up to a height of 91 meters , and in the upper area of two steel tubes. The foundation of the tower of a wind turbine has a diameter of 22.5 meters. Around 400 m² of space were built over. Around 100 tons of reinforcing steel and 700 m³ of concrete were required for the foundations. The construction work was carried out by the Neumarkt company Bögl. The weight of the nacelle (machine house) with drive train and generator is 106 tons. A single rotor blade weighs 10.4 tons. The rotor and the hub weighs 58.7 tons. The output of each individual system is 2.4 MW. At a wind speed of 20 meters per second, the system switches off to prevent storm damage. Additional shutdown devices prevent ice and shadows from being cast.

Clearance and access

In the spring of 2015, the clearing of the area required for the five wind turbines began. A total of 2.6 hectares was required for the systems, part of which was cleared. After the facilities have been set up, a large part of this area will be reforested. In autumn 2015, the construction of the access roads began to ensure the transport of the components.

Construction of the facility

The construction of the five plants began in spring 2016 by the construction company Max Bögl . All five wind turbines in the Pamsendorf wind farm were erected between March and September. At the same time, an underground cable was laid from the wind farm to the Pfreimd power plant group about 6 kilometers away , into which the electricity generated from wind energy is fed. The wind turbines went online at the end of October 2016.

Pamsendorf wind farm - Pfreimd power plant group

The Pamsendorf wind farm is connected to the power line to the Reisach pumped storage plant . The plant is located on the Pfreimd near Trausnitz . This means that the electricity generated can be used as required and, if necessary, stored by the pumped storage plant via the Rabenleite high-level storage facility near Großenschwand . In this way, both energy sources complement each other.

Resistance to the Pamsendorf wind farm

A citizens' initiative tried to prevent the Pamsendorf wind farm from being built. Errors in the approval process, nature conservation concerns, infrasound , optical impairment, ice throw and other arguments were put forward to stop the project. In letters to the editor in the daily newspaper Der Neue Tag , the opponents of wind power presented their point of view. The municipal council of the municipality of Gleiritsch , the Bavarian Hunting Association , members of the Gleiritsch settler association and some private individuals took legal action against the building project. The wind power opponents' complaints were dismissed by the courts in all instances as unfounded. The building permit for the wind farm from the Schwandorf District Office was legal. On October 10, 2016, members of the economic committee of the Bavarian state parliament visited Gleiritsch. The citizens' initiative "Gegenwind Gleiritsch" had submitted a petition with objections to the system. This was dealt with in the Petitions Committee with the decision that Dr. Harald Schwartz (CSU) and Annette Karl (SPD), members of the economic committee in the state parliament, take a picture of the situation during a visit to Gleiritsch.
