Winfried B. Lerg

Winfried Bernhard Lerg (born August 23, 1932 in Frankfurt am Main ; † April 15, 1995 in Münster ) was a German media historian , journalism and communication scholar . For many years he was director at the Institute for Journalism at the Westphalian Wilhelms University (WWU) in Münster.

Life

Lerg studied after the Abitur 1952 in Linz am Rhein journalism, political and social sciences and history at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Bonn and the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . During his studies he worked for Walter Hagemann . Then he was Henk Prakke's assistant at the Institute for Journalism. In 1964 he received his doctorate, in 1969 he completed his habilitation. In 1969 he took over the chair for journalism and was acting director of the institute for journalism. From 1970 to 1972 he was Vice Rector . In 1971 he succeeded Prakke as full professor for journalism and communication studies and director of the institute (until 1995). He researched u. a. on communication theory , propaganda and media history .

From 1966 he worked on the Brockhaus encyclopedia . From 1973 to 1975 he was chairman of the German Society for Journalism and Communication Studies . In 1974 he was the founding chairman of the study group for radio and history . In 1975 he was a member of the planning commission for the journalism course at the University of Dortmund . From 1980 to 1983 he was a scientific advisor for the field test screen text in Düsseldorf / Neuss. From 1984 to 1988 he was a member of the cable pilot project in Dortmund. In 1987/88 he was visiting professor at the University of Iowa . In 1993 he co-founded the Free Russian-German Institute for Journalism at Lomonossow University in Moscow. He was also the editor of several series.
