Winfried Jestaedt

Winfried Jestaedt (also Jestädt ; * December 19, 1931 in Fulda ; † May 7, 2011 in Würzburg ) was a German Roman Catholic church journalist .

Life

Jestaedt first studied surveying engineering at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences . The future journalist then completed a degree in Catholic theology , philosophy and cultural studies with a focus on journalism in Mainz , Fulda and Frankfurt am Main . In 1959 he was in Frankfurt with a historical work on the culture war in the Fulda country to Dr. phil. PhD. He initially volunteered at the Fuldaer Zeitung and then became an editor at the magazine publisher of the Leutesdorfer Missionare , the Johannes Verlag.

In 1962 he switched to the Würzburger Katholische Sonntagsblatt as an editor , the church newspaper for the diocese of Würzburg , which has existed since 1850 . Two years later he switched to the Deutsche Tagespost , where he worked for 23 years. In 1968 he took over the management of the “Church News” department. From 1981 to 1984 he was the newspaper's deputy editor-in-chief . In 1987 he went back to the Würzburger Katholische Sonntagsblatt as deputy editor-in-chief, and became its editor-in-chief in 1989. Winfried Jestaedt also took over the publishing management of the diocese newspaper.

In 1998, Pope John Paul II honored him with the Order of Gregory . In the year before his death, he was welcomed by Pope Benedict XVI. Awarded the New Year's Eve for his life's work as a journalist .

Jestaedt was a member of the CSU and from 1970 to 1976 chaired the local association Margetshöchheim .
