Winfried Toll
Winfried Toll (* 1955 in Dorsten ) is a German conductor , singer and composer .
Life
After graduating from the Collegium Augustinianum Gaesdonck , Toll first studied theology and philosophy in Münster and Freiburg im Breisgau . After the exams, he studied composition, music theory and school music with Klaus Huber and Brian Ferneyhough at the Freiburg University of Music . After completing this degree, Toll completed master classes in singing with Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and Aldo Baldin and in conducting with Helmuth Rilling . During this time, however, Toll also appeared as a concert and opera singer and was teaching singing at the Freiburg University of Music.
Toll has been the conductor of the Camerata Vocale Freiburg since 1988 , and from 1994 to 2002 he was the choir director of the Cologne Bach Society . In 1997, he was appointed professor of conducting at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts and was elected artistic director of the Frankfurt Kantorei . In addition, Toll has been Artistic Director of the Daejeon Philharmonic Choir in South Korea since 2007 . Guest conductors have taken Toll to various renowned orchestras and choirs such as the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen , the Gürzenich Orchestra , the SWR Vocal Ensemble Stuttgart and the RIAS Chamber Choir . In addition to his professorship in Frankfurt, Toll also regularly takes on guest professorships , for example in South Korea, the Czech Republic , South Africa and since 1994 regularly at the Musashino Academia Musicae in Tokyo .
Toll has also worked as a composer since he was a student. In 1980 he received the Altenberger Dom composition prize for his Wegkreuze organ work, his composition Psalm 13 for solos, choir and orchestra was also awarded in Stuttgart in 1981 and Wenn I forget your ever for sixteen solo voices and mixed choir in 1985 at the International Bach Academy , also in Stuttgart . In 1996 Tolls was … and premiered violence over us during the 71st Bach Festival of the Neue Bachgesellschaft in Freiburg, and in 2001 at the Voices Festival in Lörrach his Reverie for saxophone quartet and vocal ensemble.
