Wingolf Scherer
Wingolf Scherer (born May 26, 1924 in Attendorn ) is a former German officer in the Wehrmacht , most recently with the rank of lieutenant , survivor of the Ardennes offensive , teacher and author .
Life
Wingolf Scherer graduated from high school in 1942 and joined the Wehrmacht through the Reich Labor Service . In mid-December 1944, an officer since October 1944, he was sent to the Ardennes as a lieutenant and company commander in the 277th Volksgrenadier Division , which at that time was stationed in the Eifel . He was the leader of the 4th Company of the Grenadier Regiment 990. It was used on the western front line near Udenbreth . On March 1, 1945, he withdrew his company to Andernach . He capitulated on March 9, 1945 near Andernach and remained in American and British captivity until September 1945. He later wrote several books about these events.
Scherer then studied philosophy , German , history and art history in Cologne and Bonn . In 1949 he received his doctorate from the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelm University in Bonn with a highly regarded dissertation on Heinrich Heine . He then taught as a teacher at high schools in Essen , Oberhausen and Bottrop . He accepted a position as a high school councilor in Düsseldorf , became director of the State Institute for School Education in North Rhine-Westphalia and a lecturer at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . Here he had contact with Joseph Beuys , whom he described as a self-confident, captivating artist. From 1984 to 1989 he was responsible for the FDP in Kaarster City Council.
He is (co-) editor of numerous specialist books. He also published articles on museum didactics and the didactics of distance learning courses.
Scherer was married and has been a widower since 2016 . One son is Professor Ralf Scherer. Wingolf Scherer lives in Kaarst.
