Reviews

Reto Baer from Radio SRF 3 Film-Tipp writes: « Winna - Weg der Seelen went better in Valais than the latest The Hunger Games film . After Lucerne and Basel reported sold-out matinee performances, it is now showing for the first time in Zurich this Easter weekend [...] Fabienne Mathier's doc-film [...] is just a little bit scary, actually rather heartwarming and sometimes even funny. "

The news portal 1815.ch reports: “The local film Winna-Weg der Seelen is already the most successful film of 2014 in the Briger Kino Capitol - leaving blockbusters like The Hobbit or The Hunger Games behind. [...] The film is intended to create an important contemporary document. The old traditions are tracked down, storytellers and collectors have their say. "

Bianka Piringer from Kino-Zeit writes: “Mathier's film remains pleasantly neutral, neither swings into esoteric confession nor into pure irony, although the two attitudes sometimes fight for the upper hand, […] In dealing with death and the afterlife, traditional fear appears to meet a new gentle curiosity that feeds on mysticism, sadness, inwardness. For many people, the idea of where the dead person is going is now less important than the confession that “you will live on in our hearts”. »

Michael Meyns from Programmkino.de comes to the conclusion: “Perhaps the most beautiful aspect of Mathier's film is the seriousness with which the director approaches her subject. [...] thanks to the director's neutral, but always sympathetic look, the viewer has no choice but to take the stories and their narrators seriously instead of dismissing them as 'crank' or 'wonderful'. […] Fabienne Mathier's film ‹Winna - Weg der Seelen› definitely provides a glimpse into an exciting world, into an astonishingly lively tradition. "
