We don't have a car at all is a German TV film from 2012 . The comedy film is based on the non-fiction book We have no car ...: by bike across the Alps from 2009, written by Jutta Speidel and Bruno Maccallini .

action

The Italian Bruno and his partner, the businesswoman Jutta, are planning a bike tour on the Via Claudia Augusta (cycle path) from Munich to Merano . Bruno has borrowed a modern helmet camera from a bicycle shop that he wants to test for the shop. Jutta is not that enthusiastic about it and prefers to enjoy the landscape “live”. At the beginning of the trip, Jutta met the hotel owner Axel Hartmann, who she knew from a trade magazine and who offered her the option of integrating her wellness concept into his hotel chain. Bruno doesn't like it at all, after all, they wanted to forget about work on vacation. But he's also a little jealous - of the good-looking Axel.

During the romantic bike tour, Bruno wants to confess to Jutta that he lost his job weeks ago. Jutta also wants to tell him a secret during the week-long trip. After her first overnight stay turns out differently than planned, because the intended restaurant is closed, there is no romantic mood for Jutta's concerns. Not only did they have to choose a farmer's barn as an emergency shelter, but also the cyclist Marga Hoppenrieder bursts in here, who destroys any togetherness in her exuberant torrent of words. In addition, Marga also seems to like the handsome Bruno and so Jutta and Bruno run away early in the morning without saying goodbye. While the sunny day makes the onward journey very pleasant and even a small downpour does not bring the two of them out of the holiday mood, an involuntary bath in a lake makes them less enjoyable. Relieved by the beautiful room that Bruno had planned as an overnight stay, Jutta now confesses her plan to expand her business with a branch and take out a loan. Bruno is upset because his wife decided that weeks ago without involving him. The romantic dinner is then both peaceful again, but an exuberant bowling troop disturbs Bruno so much that he leaves the room and Jutta now has to dine alone. As a reconciliation, however, she brings him a plate of food to the room, where Bruno is looking through the videos he has made with the helmet camera. Due to a mishap, he inadvertently sends everyone - including the embarrassing ones from involuntary bathing in the lake - to the dealer in the bicycle shop. He finds it so amusing that he even publishes it on the Internet and shows it on a big screen in his shop.

Meanwhile, Bruno and Jutta cover part of their route with a shuttle bus (with a bicycle trailer). Unfortunately, Marga Hoppenrieder also had this idea and gets on both of them again with her torrent of speech. However, Bruno learns from Marga that he and Jutta are involuntarily seen on the Internet. He immediately calls the bicycle dealer who, however, draws his attention to the fine print in your contract.

After a flat tire, Bruno and Jutta run into Axel Hartmann by chance, who loads them both and their bikes into his car and takes them to the next pension. Bruno is clear that this was not just pure helpfulness, but that Axel wanted to make an impression on Jutta. But Bruno can also impress his wife, because he has reserved a very special room in the guesthouse. Here he finally succeeds in confessing to Jutta that he is unemployed, but he does not notice that she has already fallen asleep from exhaustion and has now not noticed anything. So Jutta learns this news from another place and is now extremely angry. She doubts whether she can really trust her Bruno if he has been hiding something so important from her for weeks. Somewhat upset, they continue their tour. When they reach the Reschenpass , they also get lost and have to spend the night outdoors. When they try to make a campfire they come into conflict with the law and an Italian officer takes them to the police station. So that they don't have to spend the night in the cell, Jutta calls Axel, who frees them from their predicament. Jutta now also finds out about the embarrassing video on the Internet from him. In an argument, she separates from Bruno and goes to one of his hotels with Axel. Even if she can really let herself be pampered, she still has sorrow because she misses Bruno. He meets Marga again and can only with difficulty avoid her pursuit. Because he too only longs for his Jutta

Jutta's friend Uschi, who is supposed to water her flowers while she is away, worries when she can no longer get a telephone connection. On the spur of the moment, she and her husband Christian follow them. In Italy she finally has a reception and finds Jutta in Axel's hotel. Together they go in search of Bruno. You can find him in the small chapel where Bruno and Jutta met. Both now no longer doubt their love for one another and are reconciled.

Reviews

The lexicon of international film describes the "comedy as harmless, amusing entertainment based on a novel by the two main actors."

The TV magazine TV Spielfilm judged: “For the filming of their travel report, the couple stepped on the pedals again and got plenty of ballast stuffed into their saddlebags: superfluous frame stories, anecdotes with carelessly designed characters and gags that have been out of the air for decades. Anyone who laughs here also demands that pedestrians wear helmets. "

“We don't have a car at all” would “stretch an idea to 90 minutes”, wrote Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv . He also asked: “Is this the comeback of the Italian holiday film of the 50s and 60s? The ZDF comedy looks like a hit film (almost) without hits, like a travel film (almost) without a car, like a comedy (almost) without a single good joke, like a relationship film without a really serious relationship, like a vehicle for one (often convincing) actress without having to play here. In the end, the decision in favor of a partner does not come from the story, but from the heart. That will bring viewers to the film. In the end, those hit movies were also successful. It doesn't make the film any better. "

publication

The literary film adaptation was broadcast on November 4, 2012 on ZDF , where it was seen by 7.47 million viewers. This made it one of the most successful television films on German television in 2012. The DVD release has been available since December 7, 2012.

Sequels

The film was continued in 2013 with We Have No Marriage Certificate and in 2015 with Two Donkeys in Sardinia .
