The Wirtsberg is 663.7  m above sea level. NHN high mountain in Vogtland near the Landwüst district of Markneukirchen .

Location and surroundings

It is located as an unwooded height southeast of Landwüst in the Elster Mountains . Its highest point is only about 200 m away from the Landwüster Church and carries a 9.3 m high observation tower built in 1986 , which is popularly known as the "lemon squeezer" because of its idiosyncratic shape. There is also a column of the Royal Saxon Triangulation from 1876 on the summit .

view

From the Wirtsberg you have an impressive panoramic view of the Upper Vogtland and neighboring areas. In the northeast you can see Schöneck , Hohe Brand , Kiel and Aschberg . Further to the east follow the Landesgemeindetal near Erlbach and, already in the Czech Republic, the rocks of the Hohe Steins (Czech Vysoký kámen ). To the south you can see the Eger Basin and further to the west you can see the Kapellenberg and the observation tower on the Hainberg ( Háj u Aše in Czech ).

history

An old road from Adorf to Eger ran through the desert past the Wirtsberg to Rohrbach, now part of Bad Brambach . South of Landwüst you can find the "Schwedenschanze" on this road, a defensive system that probably dates from the time of the Schmalkaldic War and was reinforced in 1632 during the Thirty Years' War .

Paths to the summit

The Wirtsberg can be reached in less than five minutes from a parking lot at the Landwüster Church on an ascending footpath.
