Witold Krzemieński

Witold Krzemieński (born April 20, 1909 in Lviv ; † August 27, 2001 in Poznan ) was a Polish composer , conductor and music teacher .

Krzemieński studied violin with Józef Cetner and composition and conducting with Adam Sołtys at the Lemberg Conservatory . In 1927 he became a violist in the orchestra of the Lviv Opera , and from 1928 to 1930 he directed the student orchestra of the Lviv School of Architecture. From 1937 to 1939 he was a violinist with the radio orchestra in Lemberg, then until 1944 concertmaster of the violists in the opera orchestra.

In 1944 he took over the leadership of the Lviv National Orchestra, after which he was musical director of the Stanisław Wyspiański Theater in Katowice until 1947 . In addition, in 1946 he became the conductor of the Katowice Philharmonic, whose director he was from 1947 to 1949, and taught conducting at the State Music Academy .

From 1950 to 1963 Krzemieński taught conducting at the Cracow State Music Academy, and from 1953 to 1957 he was conductor and artistic director of the Cracow Philharmonic . Under his leadership were u. a. Performed compositions by Grażyna Bacewicz , Tadeusz Paciorkiewicz and Kazimierz Sikorski . From 1950 to 1965 he also worked as a composer and conductor for the Lodz film studio.

In 1963 Krzemieński went to Poznan and took a conducting class at the State University of Music. In 1973 he received the title of professor. From 1963 to 1967 he was director of the Poznan Philharmonic , from 1972 to 1974 artistic director of the Pomeranian Philharmonic in Bydgoszcz. As a guest conductor, he led orchestras in Germany, Romania, Hungary, Austria and Belgium. In the course of his career he has directed numerous world premieres of works by Polish composers such as Tadeusz Baird , Witold Lutosławski , Krzysztof Meyer , Krystyna Moszumańska-Nazar , Krzysztof Penderecki , Piotr Perkowski , Ludomir Różycki , Kazimierz Serocki and Boleslaw Szabelski . His students include a. Adam Natanek , Irena Pfeiffer , Włodzimierz Szymański , Zygmunt Rychert and Agnieszka Duczmal .
