The ship was built as Nickel in Wilhelmshaven in the early 1950s . It was used as a supply ship for excavators , which supplied it with coal for the steam engines . In 1974/75 it was converted into a surveying ship and used by the Bremerhaven Waterways and Shipping Office as a sand for surveying work in the area of the office. In 1983 the ship was modernized. It was u. a. the crane on deck removed and the ship retrofitted with two dinghies, a lobster and a crab , which could be lowered into the water with the aid of davits . In 1988 a bow thruster was installed and the ship got a new MWM main engine with an output of 440 kW .
The ship was decommissioned in 2004 and replaced by the Zenit .
Whereabouts of the ship
The ship was sold to Egypt in 2004 via VEBEG for 136,200 euros. Before being transferred to Egypt, it was overhauled by MWB Motorenwerke Bremerhaven . In Egypt, the ship was converted into a yacht and renamed Wellesand .
