Vladimir Efimovich Zessarsky

Vladimir Jefimowitsch Zessarski ( Russian Владимир Ефимович Цесарский ; * August 1895 in Odessa ; † January 21, 1940 in Moscow ) was a Ukrainian - Russian NKVD officer.

Life

Zessarski, son of a Jewish clerk , visited Odessa in the elementary school (1906-1910) and the Vocational School (1910-1913). He then worked as a lathe operator in a factory in Odessa .

During the First World War , Zessarski became a Social Revolutionary (SR) in 1915 and belonged to the left wing of the Ukrainian SR. He joined the Red Guard and in 1919 became a member of the Bolshevik Party . Than during the Russian Civil War the Ukraine from the whites dominated, Zessarski worked in Odessa and Kiev underground. In 1920 he became an employee of the military intelligence service and assistant to the representative of the All-Ukrainian Extraordinary Commission in Kiev and Kharkov .

From 1922 Zessarski worked in the economy in Kiev and the Far East and in the party in Blagoveschensk and in the North Caucasus . In 1930 he became an employee of the Central Committee of the CPSU (Central Committee), in 1932 assistant to the head of the control department and in 1934 assistant to the head of the industrial department. He completed a Marxism-Leninism course (October 1930 – February 1932). In 1935 he became an assistant to the Central Committee Secretary Nikolai Ivanovich Jeschow . In 1936 Zessarski was involved in the discrediting of Genrich Grigoryevich Jagodas , where he supported Jakow Saulowitsch Agranow .

In October 1936, Zessarski moved to the NKVD as a special representative in the major rank and in July 1937 became head of the 8th department (invoice and registration) of the main administration of the NKVD. There he became a central figure in the Great Terror by drawing up the shooting lists, which were signed by Stalin , Voroshilov , Molotov and Kaganovich . In March 1938 he became head of the 4th (secret political) department.

In June 1938, Zessarsky became a member of the Moscow Oblast of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR .

In September 1938 Zessarski was as head of the Ukhta - Izhma River -Lagers the Gulag in the Komi Republic drafted, the petroleum , natural gas , asphalt and radium promoted and processed. In December 1938 he was arrested because of his friendship with Jan Borissowitsch Gamarnik and alleged personal fluctuations when he converted from the Social Revolutionaries to the Bolshevik Party. Following the judgment of the Military College of the Supreme Court of the USSR , Zessarsky was shot dead in its building in Moscow. He was not rehabilitated.
