Vladimir Stepanowitsch Stogow

Wladimir Stepanowitsch Stogow ( Russian Владимир Степанович Стогов , scientific transliteration Vladimir Stepanovič Stogov ; born November 5, 1930 , † May 17, 2005 in Moscow) was a Soviet weightlifter .

Career

Vladimir Stogov started lifting weights at the age of 18. He showed a lot of talent and achieved excellent placements in many competitions in the Soviet Union. Therefore, he was delegated to the central army sports club CSKA Moscow , where he found excellent coach and training conditions. In 1955 he was first Soviet champion before him for the succession of the exchanged into the featherweight Olympic champion Ivan Udodow struggling Viktor Wilchowski and Bakir Farchutdinow . He was then sent to the world championship in Munich , where he promptly became world champion in bantamweight. Until 1962 he then represented the Soviet Union at many international championships with great success. But he did not succeed in becoming an Olympic champion . In 1956 the American Charles Vinci snatched the gold medal from him. In 1960 he was not used.

After finishing his active career, Vladimir Stogov was an officer in the Soviet Army.
