Karl Woldemar of Arpshofen ( Russian Карл-Владимир Генрихович Арпсгофен Karl-Wladimir Genrichowitsch of Arpshofen ; born November 24, jul. / 6. December  1832 greg. In Waiwara ; † February 14 jul. / 26. February  1890 greg. In Odessa ) was a Russian lieutenant general .

Life

Origin and family

Woldemar was a member of the Baltic barons of Arpshofen . His parents were the heir to the Estonian manors Hermannsberg and Wasahof , Gerhard Heinrich von Arpshofen (1795-1854) and Olga, née Warneck (1807-1883). He was married to Sophie Wutschetitsch-Bielitz (* 1855). The marriage resulted in six children, including:

Career

Arpshofen began his career in the Imperial Russian Army after graduating from the 1st Cadet Corps in 1851 in the Semyonovsky Life Guard Regiment . In the suppression of the Polish January uprising in 1863 he was able to distinguish himself and received the Golden Sword for bravery the following year . In 1865 he was also awarded the Order of St. Stanislaus, Second Class, before being promoted to colonel in 1867 . In December 1868 he was commander of a battalion in the Life Guard Strelkow Regiment and received the Order of Saint Anne, 2nd class , in 1869 . On April 17, 1870 he became a wing adjutant and in 1874 commander of the Lithuanian Guard Regiment.

At the beginning of the Russo-Turkish War, he moved out with a Warsaw regiment. He was able to distinguish himself several times from the enemy and rose after the Battle of Pleven on December 18, 1877 to major general in the emperor's suite, and was also awarded the Order of St. Anne, 1st class. In 1878 he got the swords for the Order of Saint Vladimir III. Class, which he had already received in 1874, as well as in the 4th class in 1872. After the Battle of Philippople he was honored with the Order of St. Stanislaus, First Class. After almost three years of illness, he was appointed governor general of Odessa in July 1880 and was temporarily city ​​governor there . From 1884 to 1890 he was commander of the 4th rifle brigade and was promoted to lieutenant general in 1886.

Arpshofen had been a knight of the Red Eagle Order II. Class since 1873 , the Order of the Iron Crown II. Class since 1874 , as well as the St. Vladimir Order II. Class since 1885.
