Wolf-Dietrich Leers

Wolf-Dietrich Leers (born August 9, 1927 in Halle (Saale) , † September 3, 1986 in Toronto ) was a German-Canadian infectiologist and insurance doctor.

Life

Leers' parents were the lawyer and notary Dr. iur. Walter Rudolf Leers and his wife Lieselotte geb. Gülland . He attended the high school for boys in Aschersleben and the Francke Foundations . After graduating from high school in Halle in 1946, he studied medicine at the Georg-August University . In November 1949 he renounced the Corps Hannovera Göttingen . As an inactive , he moved to the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg , where he was also active as a consenior in the Corps Hasso-Borussia . He finished his studies at the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg and was awarded a Dr. med. PhD . He then worked for three years as an assistant doctor at the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf and at the Municipal Hospital in Verden . In June 1958 he went to Ontario . He also graduated with a Ph.D. and became a specialist in infectious diseases . As an Associate Professor and Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada , he led the Microbiology Department at Wellesley Hospital in Toronto. At the same time he was medical director of several insurers ( Colonia Life , Pennsylvania Life , Commercial Union ). Crashed in a sport airplane at the age of 59 , burned in the rubble. He left his wife Ilse-Gabriele geb. Kahmann and? Children. His father-in-law was Jenenser Franke .

Leers owned the Freemason Lodge University Lodge No. 496 in Toronto and endowed in his will a scholarship to study medical sciences at the University of Toronto , which was first awarded by the Lodge in 1989 in his memory.
