Wolf Bröll
Wolf Bröll (born March 24, 1950 in Stuttgart ; † May 2, 2016 in Mandelbeck near Northeim ) was a German photographer , painter , sculptor and professor of art education .
Life
Wolf Bröll began an internship as a photographer in 1969 . After several years of temporary employment in the photo industry, he moved to Berlin in 1972 and worked experimentally as a photographer. In 1973 he passed the journeyman's examination at the Federal College for Photography Crafts in Hamburg . Until 1979 he worked as a photographer at the Institute for Visual Communication and Design in Berlin with Herbert W. Kapitzki .
He discovered his inclination for spatial portraits and began studying sculpture at the Berlin University of Fine Arts . He went on study trips to Italy and Greece . In 1979 and 1980 he worked as a sculptor on the Cycladic island of Naxos . In 1983 he completed his main studies with Professor Arnold at the Kunsthochschule Kassel with a diploma. He has been working as a freelancer since 1984. A successful period followed with numerous sculpture symposiums as well as annual group and individual exhibitions.
In 1997 Wolf Bröll was appointed professor for art education at the University of Vechta . His focus was on plastic and objects. In 2004 he started the project Ariadne on Naxos - Sculpture for the city of Naxos in Greece. In 2005 he received first prize at the international sculpture competition Peer Gynt . He created the granite sculpture Solveig at the hut for the city of Oslo , Norway .
The main works of his artistic activity are sculptures for public spaces. Over 60 of his works are in 30 locations. His guiding motto was the shaping of the rough stone as a challenge and source of the will to create into the seemingly unfinished.
Wolf Bröll was buried in the Northeim cemetery.
